August 17, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release

Masi Marjamaki, a 20-year old right wing selected in the fifth round of the 2005 draft, has agreed to a three-year contract with the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, affiliate of the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Marjamaki, a member of Team Finland at the last two World Junior Championships, will fight for a roster spot with the Islanders in training camp in September.

Marjamaki was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round, 66th overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. After failing to come to terms with the Bruins and re-entering the draft this past July, Marjamaki was chosen 144th overall by the Islanders.

On draft day, he was hailed by Islanders scouts for his skill level, relentless effort, ability to play in traffic and leadership skills. Last season, Marjamaki was captain at Moose Jaw, where he went 14-32-46 in 51 games. In 179 career WHL games for Red Deer and Moose Jaw, Marjamaki recorded 50 goals and 70 assists for 120 points.

At the 2004 World Junior Championships, Marjamaki had a goal and two assists in leading Team Finland to a bronze medal. He was a teammate of Islanders' 2004 first round draft pick Petteri Nokelainen at the 2004 and 2005 WJC's.
