Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Charlottetown Islanders will be pinking out the rink this Friday and they invite you to participate.

The team will be donning special edition pink jerseys in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation when they do battle with the Shawinigan Cataractes on October 19th at 7:30 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre.

The game will see those special jerseys raffled and auctioned off to fans at the game to raise funds for breast cancer research, education and awareness. Members of the Run for The Cure committee will be selling the raffle tickets at Friday's game. The Islanders will also be donating a portion of ticket sales to the Atlantic Chapter of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink to show their support to the cause; those wearing pink will be entered to win prizes.

Islanders President of Operations Craig Foster said the game is anticipated every year by the entire organization and fans looking to help support the battle against the disease.

"People buy a raffle ticket or place a bid to support the cause, first and foremost." he said, adding that the opportunity to win one of the jerseys is also an extra bonus for many. "They're unique jerseys that won't be produced again."

Veteran defenseman Hunter Drew said the game has become a tradition not only enjoyed by fans, but also the players themselves.

"It's something we do every year and it's always fun," Drew said. "I hope there will be a lot of fans out in support."

This past weekend, the Islanders teamed up with Centennial Mazda for a carwash to raise funds in support of breast cancer research. The Islanders will also be partnering up with Boston Pizza for a "Celebrity Server Day" later this month, where ten percent of all sales will be added to the team's donation.

Foster said the dinner, carwash, and game are all great opportunities for the team to connect with the community while also raising funds for a great cause.

"Nearly all of us have been impacted in a direct or indirect way by breast cancer. We're extremely happy to be able to lend our players to the cause," he said.

Tickets for the game are available at the Eastlink Center box office from 11:00am-5:00pm. Fans can also order tickets by phone at 902-629-6625 or online at www.eastlinkcenrepei.com. Also, all breast cancer survivors will be admitted to the game free of charge. They can pick up their free ticket at the Eastlink Centre Box Office.
