Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The playoff picture for the Charlottetown Islanders could get a little clearer tonight.

The red-hot Isles will play the Saint John Sea Dogs for the third time in a row tonight at the Eastlink Centre with the opportunity to lock up fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Should the Islanders (32-25-5-0) defeat the Sea Dogs (30-31-1-0) in regulation, they'll put themselves 10 points clear of the Sea Dogs with five games remaining for both teams, with Charlottetown holding the season series tie-breaker. They've had the Sea Dogs' number this year, securing seven out of a possible eight victories over their Maritime Division rivals.

They've done so off the back of a potent offense, particularly over the past few games. The Islanders have won three straight games each by a score of 6-2, and have won five games in a row overall. Each night has seen a different hero emerge, with Gaetan Jobin wearing that crown last night. Jobin led the way offensively with two goals and an assist, extending his point streak to four games. Over that stretch, the Swiss forward has amassed seven points.

No player, however, has been hotter than Nikita Alexandrov. The St. Louis Blues prospect picked up a goal and an assist last night, making it five straight multi-point games and eight straight games with at least a point. In that eight-game stretch, Alexandrov has recorded 18 points, including seven goals.

Jacob Goobie projects to get the start in goal. The 16-year-old netminder was last in net back on February 16th against the Shawinigan Cataractes. Despite taking the loss in that game, Goobie turned in a solid performance, giving up just two goals and making 22 saves.

Meanwhile for Saint John, the Sea Dogs find themselves in a bit of a conundrum. Starting goaltender Zachary Bouthillier has been sidelined with an undisclosed injury, leaving the crease to 17-year-old rookie Noah Patenaude. The Swiss backstopper has struggled in the past two games against Charlottetown, ceding 12 goals combined. The Sea Dogs have brought another 2002-born rookie, Mathias Savoie, along for the trip. Savoie has appeared in just one game, coming in to relieve Bouthillier during a game last season, so it remains to be seen if head coach Josh Cowan will turn to him tonight with important points on the line.

Don't forget that tonight is another Olde Dublin Pub Happy Hour game; Carter MacLellan will be playing music in the Moose Light Lounge, happy hour pricing will be in effect from 6:30-7:30 and for an hour after the game, and free apps will be available courtesy of the Olde Dublin Pub! Tickets are available at the Eastlink Centre box office, by phone at 902-629-6625, or online at https://boxoffice.eastlinkcentrepei.com.
