Islanders and Wildcats Meet in Sunday Afternoon Affair
September 29, 2019 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
Coming off of their second victory in a row over the Halifax Mooseheads, the Charlottetown Islanders will look to keep the momentum going on the road with an afternoon visit to Moncton to do battle with the Wildcats at 4:00pm.
The Isles have been getting steady contributions from their biggest players to start the season. Thomas Casey continues to lead the way statistically with five points in three games, however hot on his heels is Cedric Desruisseaux. The Victoriaville native has quietly recorded points in all three games thus far to start the season, including recording his first goal as an Islander in Friday's victory over Halifax.
Nikita Alexandrov had a successful return to the lineup in that game as well. He recorded his first goal of the season early in the first period after sitting out the first two games of the season with a shoulder injury. He'll look to lead the charge against a Moncton Wildcats team that defeated the Islanders in overtime in their season opener back on September 21st.
Like the Islanders, the Wildcats will also have key players in the lineup that weren't available last week. Jakob Pelletier has returned to the lineup following his time at the Calgary Flames training camp while Alexander Khovanov is also back in the lineup following an injury. The pair make up two thirds of the Wildcats top line, alongside third overall pick Zachary L'Heureux. They've been lethal to start the season, with each of them recording four points in a 6-5 shootout victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan this past Friday.
In goal, Matthew Welsh has been his standard self through the first three games of the season, allowing just six goals en route to a .918 save percentage thus far. At the opposite end of the rink, Olivier Rodrigue will look to replicate his 26-save performance against the Islanders as opposed to his last start Friday against the Titan, where he allowed five goals on 35 shots despite getting the shootout win.
