Isaac Smeltzer Returns to Eagles Roster

The Colorado Eagles announced Tuesday that they have re-signed defenseman Isaac Smeltzer for the 2013-2014 season.

Smeltzer, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound blueliner, played in a 58 games last season with the Eagles, registering 2 goals and 5 assists. He also appeared in 5 playoff games, adding 2 assists. In Smeltzer's 11 late appearances with the Eagles in 2011-2012 he posted 1 assist and saw action in 3 playoff games.

"I think Isaac took a big step forward last season," said President and General Manager Chris Stewart. "He brings great size, toughness and a desire to win every night. He is another guy who adds character and accountability to our dressing room," Stewart emphasized.

Prior to coming to Colorado, he recorded 42 points (8-34-42) and 270 penalty minutes in 106 games with Brock University, setting collegiate career highs in goals (4), assists (10), points (14) and PIMs (138) in 2011-12. Before his four years with the Badgers, Smeltzer played three seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League, registering 69 points (19-50-69) and 327 PIMs in 158 games.

"It's an honor to rejoin the Eagles," Smeltzer expressed. "We will have a solid group returning this year and will be poised to win the franchise's first Kelly Cup. I can't wait to get the season started."

The 2013-14 season begins on October 18th when the Eagles travel to California to take on the Bakersfield Condors. Colorado will make its regular season home debut against the Idaho Steelheads on October 25th at the Budweiser Events Center.
