Royals Agree to Terms with Forward Julien Cayer

Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the organization has agreed to terms with forward Julien Cayer ["kie YAY"]. Cayer (6'4/207) (24), who will be entering his second season of pro, is the eighth player announced as signed by the Royals for the 2013-14 season, seven of whom played for Reading's 2012-13 Kelly Cup Championship team. The other players so far announced as signed by the Royals are Ethan Cox (f), Nikita Kashirsky (f), Bryant Molle (d), Ian O'Connor (f), Bobby Shea (d), Yannick Tifu (f), and Brad Walch (d).
Cayer, who hails from Longueuil, Quebec, played fifty-five games for the Royals last season, forty-nine during the regular season and six of the twenty-two it took for Reading to capture the Kelly Cup. He initially secured a spot on the Royals' opening day roster after an eye-catching, energy-filled performance during pre-season training camp. Cayer earned the team's 'Heart Award' by playing that same way for 49 regular season games with Reading, recording nine points (3g-6a) and forty-five penalty minutes-and playing to a plus-10 (+10) in those games. Cayer's first goal as a pro came in his thirty-ninth game with the team when he scored what proved to be the game winner in a 3-0 victory over the Orlando Solar Bears at the Sovereign Center on March 8, 2013.
Consistent with his 'whatever it takes' attitude and versatile skill set, Cayer jumped into the broadcast booth during the early stages of playoffs where he served as the Royals' color commentator for several road games, displaying his considerable style, grace and wit. However, he was called out of the broadcast booth and onto the ice for the pivotal Game Four of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cincinnati Cyclones, which the Royals won 3-2 in Cincinnati. He then played the next five consecutive post-season games, four of which the Royals won. Cayer's lone playoff point came when he assisted on the first goal of the Kelly Cup Finals (by Ethan Cox) in Game One of the KCF against the Stockton Thunder.
A fifth round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Cayer registered thirty-three points (14g-19a) and 100 penalty minutes in 104 total collegiate games over four seasons at Clarkson University prior to turning pro.
