Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY - Despite getting another strong start from Scott Copeland, the Aberdeen IronBirds mustered just one run on Saturday night as they fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades 2-1.
The IronBirds jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning. Trent Mummey led off the game with a double to right field. Sammie Starr hit a ground ball to shortstop Derek Dietrich. He couldn't field it cleanly and it allowed Mummey to move up to third. Adam Gaylord hit a ball back at the pitcher Devin Fuller. It kicked off of him, and allowed Mummey to score from third, making it 1-0.
Hudson Valley took the lead in the sixth. Dietrich led off the inning with a triple to right. Steve Tinoco knocked him in with a double. Nick Schwaner then singled, putting runners on the corners for Phil Wunderlich. Copeland was removed from the game for rehabbing reliever Kam Mickolio. The tall right-hander got Wunderlich to ground into a 4-6-3 double play. On the play Tinoco scored from third, making it 2-1.
Copeland left the game after going five-plus innings. He surrendered the two runs on five hits. Copeland walked two and struck out four. At one point Copeland retired 10 Renegades in a row.
Jimmy Patterson (1-1) got the win for the Renegades. He came into the game in the sixth inning and retired all 12 batters he faced in order. Copeland (1-4) took the loss.
