Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

After winning two of three on the road against the Vermont Lake Monsters, the Hudson Valley Renegades returned home to host their McNamara Division rivals, the Aberdeen IronBirds. Hudson Valley overcame an early deficit to win, 2-1.

The IronBirds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as Adam Gaylord singled off of Renegades starter Devin Fuller's leg. It would be the only run charged to Fuller, who turned in one of his finest outings of the season. Before exiting, the former Arizona State Sun Devil allowed just one run on six hits in five innings.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning. Hudson Valley shortstop Derek Dietrich led off with his first professional triple, and Steve Tinoco doubled to tie the game. Tinoco came home two batters later when Phil Wunderlich grounded into a double play, making the score 2-1.

Jimmy Patterson (1-1) relieved Fuller in the sixth, and made sure the score did not change. The first-year professional, also a former ASU pitcher, retired all 12 batters he faced, striking out three and earning his first career win.

The Renegades won their third game in four tries, and improved to 19-20 this season. After beginning July with five losses in their first seven games, Hudson Valley won 12 of their final 20 July contests, finishing the month at 14-13.

Aberdeen and Hudson Valley complete their two-game series tomorrow night at the Dutch. Game time is 5:05 pm.
