Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

The IronBirds (2-9) rolled to their first home victory of 2005 thanks to the awesome power of Nolan Reimold and Rob Marconi, who each blasted a homer en route to the 'Birds 6-3 win over Brooklyn (8-3). Starter Ryan Schwabe threw a gem, going 6.2 innings and allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 85 pitches.

Things looked bleak early for Aberdeen, as a leadoff single was turned into a run for Brooklyn. But the 'Birds stormed back in the bottom of the 2nd, when Marconi launched a 2-out solo home run off the visitor's clubhouse beyond the leftfield wall.

The barrage continued in the 3rd when, again with 2 outs, Aberdeen put up a 4 spot. Zo Scott singled and went to 2nd on a sac bunt. Ryan Steinbach walked, and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Jason Maxey then ripped a clutch 2 RBI single up the middle. He was followed by Reimold, who hit perhaps the furthest home run in Ripken Stadium history as it travelled well beyond the clubhouse in left and disappeared somewhere near Havre de Grace.

Schwabe allowed 2 runs in the 7th, only 1 earned. The 'Birds answered in the bottom of the 8th, when Corey Shafer ripped a hot smash that handcuffed the Brooklyn first baseman and scored the final Aberdeen run.

Blake Owen threw 1.2 hitless, scoreless innings to notch his first save of the season.

The series rubber match will be tomorrow night at 7:05, as Radhames Liz gets the ball for the 'Birds.
