Cards Fall to Yanks

New Jersey Cardinals News Release


This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals were defeated by the Staten Island Yankees 4-2 in the 2nd game of their 3 game set. The Cardinals saw their record fall to 4-7 while the Yankees improved to 6-3. Cory Meacham picked up the loss (0-1) for the Cardinals, while Josh Schmidt picked up his 1st victory of the season (1-0). .

The Yankees struck first with 2 runs in the 2nd. The Cardinals responded with 1 in the 7th on Sean Dobsons RBI single scoring Carlos De La Cruz, who had earlier walked and stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a throwing error by the catcher. The Cards then tied it in the 8th, with 1 out Adam Rogers was hit by pitch and was then pinch ran for by Sean Danielson, who advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Yonathan Sivira hit an infield single to the 3rd baseman which allowed Danielson to move to 3rd. Jose Mendez then drew a walk to load the bases and Daniel Nelson pinch hitting for Adam Morris hit a deep sacrifice fly to left scoring Danielson. The Cards had a chance to take the lead, but Jose Delgados drive to deep right center was run down by the center fielder to end the inning.

The Yanks answered back with 2 runs in their half of the 9th on a couple of Cardinals fielding miscues to take a 4-2 lead. Schmidt then came out and shut the Cardinals down in order to end the game.

The Cardinals will return to Skylands on Saturday to finish off there 3 game set against Staten Island at 5:00 pm, Tomorrow night is also pennant giveaway night sponsored by Phils Ford.
