Iowa Barnstormers Crush Sugar Skulls

A dominant second half helped push the Iowa Barnstormers (3-1) over the Tucson Sugar Skulls (1-2) on Saturday, June 5th. The Iowa Barnstormers son 33-13 on the road in Tucson, Arizona.

Both teams got out to a slow start in the first quarter. The Sugar Skulls were the only team to put points on the board with a touchdown and PAT. Both teams remained scoreless for the rest of the quarter. At the end of the first quarter,  Barnstormers DL Chukwukelu forced a fumble and DL Jones was able to get the recovery. Going into the second quarter, the Sugar Skulls led the Iowa Barnstormers 7-0.

After a slow first quarter for the Iowa Barnstormers, Daquan Neal rushed for a touchdown with just under 12:00 left in the second quarter. PAT by Crowell was no good. Barnstormers trailed 6-7. A pick 6 by Tyrone Cromwell gave the Barnstormers another touchdown and put them ahead of the Tucson Sugar Skulls 12-7. PAT by Criswell was good and the Iowa Barnstormers led 13-7 with 9:08 left in the second quarter. With :27 left in the second quarter, Hudson's quarterback was able to find RB Mike Jones for a Sugar Skulls touchdown. PAT was no good, and with less than a minute left in ha lf, the Barnstormers and Sugar Skulls were tied 13-13.

The Iowa Barnstormers had the ball first to start the second half. With 9:38 left in the  third quarter, Criswell was able to score  field goal putting the Iowa Barnstormers back in the lead, 17-13 over the Sugar Skulls. Neither offense was able to score again a nd the third quarter ended with the Iowa Barnstormers up 17-13 going into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter of the game, the Barnstormers defense was too much for the Tucson Sugar Skulls. With 12:04 left in the quarter, kicked Nathan Criswell made a field goal to put the Barnstormers up 20-13. Just a few minutes later, RB Evan Owens found the end zone to extend the Iowa Barnstormers lead to 27-13 with 5:07 left in the game. The Barnstormers defense never let up, and helped get the ball back to the Barnstormers offense. With just under one minute remaining in the game, AN Daquan Neal rushed to the end zone, putting the Barnstormers up 33-13 over the Sugar Skulls. The Sugar Skulls had one more attempt to score, but the Barnstormers defense was too much for their offense and the Iowa Barnstormers were victorious over the Sugar Skulls.

The Iowa Barnstormers are on the road again next Saturday, June 12th in Bismarck, ND against the Bismarck Bucks.
