The Iowa Cubs swept the Portland Beavers with a 5-2 victory Tuesday afternoon at Principal Park.

Four Iowa pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts in the victory. Starter Kevin Hart did not factor in the decision, but struck out six in four innings of work. Winning pitcher Mike Burns threw three innings, striking out five while allowing one run. Jose Ascanio struck out the side to pick up his ninth save and Neal Cotts struck out one in one inning of relief.

The Beavers got on the board in the first inning when Chase Headley hit a solo homer.

Hoffpauir answered back for the Cubs with a three-run shot that scored Eric Patterson and Matt Murton for a 3-1 Cubs lead. Hoffpauir drove in five runs and was 2-for-4 in the win.

In the sixth inning Peter Ciofrone hit a solo home run for Portland to cut the lead 3-2.

Patterson singled and Sam Fuld walked in the eighth inning. The pair was driven in when Hoffpauir hot a two-RBI double to right field for the 5-2 final.

The Cubs have an off day tomorrow but return to action Thursday in Texas against the Round Rock Express.
