
Intimidators squash 'Hoppers with walk-off

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 31, 2015)- The Kannapolis Intimidators erased a three-run deficit in the sixth and finished off the comeback with a walk-off RBI single by John Ziznewski in the ninth to beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 4-3, Friday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System.
Michael Suiter doubled in the sixth, extending his hitting streak to a career-high-trying 10 games. Suiter ended his evening 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Suiter is hitting .307 (13-30) during the streak that dates back to July 19.
The Grasshoppers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Arturo Rodriguez scored from third on a fielding error by Ziznewski.
Greensboro padded its lead with two more runs in the fifth, to make it 3-0. After John Norwood singled off-the-wall to score Rony Cabrera, Mason Davis scored on an Arturo Rodriguez sac-fly.
In the sixth, Kannapolis plated three runs to even the game at 3-3. It started when Suiter doubled to score Ryan Plourde. Mason Robbins then singled, and Suiter scored on a ground out to first by Louie Lechich. Robbins completed the three-run frame when he scored from third on a wild pitch.
In the ninth, with two outs and runners on the corners John Ziznewski lined home Louie Lechich to complete the second walk-off win of the season for Kannapolis.
Mason Robbins led the way for the Intimidators going 3-for-4 with a run scored. It was Robbins 22nd multi-hit game this season and his seventh in which he had two or more hits.
Matt Cooper earned the win (3-0), working one inning while striking out one.
Brad Salgado worked 3.0 innings or scoreless relief, allowing no runs one hit, while striking out one.
Kelvin Rivas took the loss (1-2), working 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three.
The Intimidators and Grasshoppers continue their four-game series Saturday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Two highly-touted arms duel it out as right-hander Spencer Adams (6-5, 3.51) gets the start against fellow righty Tyler Kolek (4-7, 94.15).
