Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

CHARLESTON, WV - All nine West Virginia starters had hits as the Power had a season high 18 in topping the BlueClaws 9-2 on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park to win their fourth straight game and hand the BlueClaws their fourth straight loss.

Lakewood (19-15/52-50) falls to five games in back of West Virginia (60-43) as the Power have now taken the first two games of their four-game series.

The bottom five Power hitters went 13-26 led by three hits from Tyler Filliben, who also drove in two runs. Six of the nine hitters had mutli-hit games for West Virginia. The BlueClaws, meanwhile, had just four hits and did not get a hit until the sixth inning. Power starter Yeudy Garcia, who improved to 10-2, came out after five no-hit innings.

West Virginia got on the board with a run in the first inning on a SAC fly by Jerrick Suiter. They threatened to extend the lead in the next two innings, but Elniery Garcia got out of bases loaded, none out jams in both the second and third innings.

Garcia, who fell to 6-8 with the loss, came out after three innings, and the Power got a fourth inning home run by Connor Joe, his first professional home run, off Calvin Rayburn to take a 2-0 lead. The Power added two more in the fifth inning on RBIs from Taylor Gushue and Tyler Filliben.

Jairo Munoz got the last two outs of the fifth and then gave up four runs on six hits in the sixth inning including RBI doubles to both Filliben and Jordan Luplow. The BlueClaws, who did not get their first hit until the seventh inning, scored twice in that frame off Julio Vivas.

Herlis Rodriguez, Cord Sandberg, Scott Kingery, and Chase Harris had the four hits for the BlueClaws.

The series in West Virginia continues on Saturday night. RHP Shane Watson (1-2) starts for Lakewood against RHP Alex McRae (4-7) of West Virginia.
