Hickory Crawdads News Release

Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads put together a complete offensive performance Saturday night, as all 9 batters in the 'Dads lineup finished with at least one hit to propel the team to a 9-6 win over the Hagerstown Suns in front of 3,523 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The prolonged Crawdads attack saw the offense score in five different innings, including one in the 1st, two in the 2nd, three in the 6th, two in the 7th, and one last run in the 8th. The 'Dads ended the night with 11 total hits, led by Juremi Profar who went 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Jose Trevino also finished with a multi-hit game, going 2-5 with his team-leading 13th home run of the year and three RBI.

The Crawdads attack got underway in the bottom of the 1st, when Jose Cardona reached on a leadoff walk, stole second base, and eventually scored on a fielding error from Suns second baseman Bryan Mejia for a 1-0 Hickory lead. The 'Dads tripled the advantage to 3-0 with two more runs in the next inning when Jairo Beras lined a solo homer to left to start the frame, before a triple by Xavier Turner and an RBI sacrifice fly from Profar brought in the second run.

The score remained the same until the through the first four innings before Hagerstown scored a single run in the 5th against Crawdads starting pitcher Yohander Mendez and another tally in the 6th off of reliever Ariel Jurado to tighten the 'Dads lead to 3-2.

The Hickory bats responded however, with the club plating three runs in the 6th and two more in the 7th to stretch the advantage to 8-2. The 6th inning surge began with back-to-back, two-out walks by Beras and Turner followed by a 2-RBI triple from Carlos Arroyo and an RBI double by Profar. The two 7th inning tallies came on one swing of the bat by Trevino, who launched a 2-run long ball to left to put the Crawdads ahead by six.

The lead would be tested in the 8th, as the first five batters of the inning reached for the Suns on a hit-by-pitch, single, back-to-back walks, and an infield hit to score two runs. Hagerstown brought in two more tallies on an RBI groundout by Osvaldo Abreu and an RBI sacrifice fly from Jose Marmolejos to narrow their deficit to 8-6.

That would be as close as the Suns would get though, as the 'Dads picked up one last run on an RBI single by Trevino in the bottom of the 8th before reliever Scott Williams sat down the Suns in order in the 9th to finish off Hickory's 9-6 victory.

Jurado (11-0) earned the win for the Crawdads with one run allowed on two hits, two walks, and three strikeouts over 2.1 innings of work. Hagerstown starter Drew Van Orden (5-5) took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits, three walks, and 2 Ks. Williams (5) recorded the save after tossing two shutout innings from the bullpen.

The Crawdads (63-39/19-15) will look to make it back-to-back wins over the Suns (50-52/15-19) when they meet up again Saturday night at 7:00 pm for game three of their four-game series.
