
Intimidators Face Minimum in 2-0 Win

The Kannapolis Intimidators were a bunt single away from a perfect game as they faced the minimum and, for the second straight day, shutout the Asheville Tourists by the score of 2-0. Ryan Buch pitched outstanding in seven innings, followed by JR Ballinger and Orlando Santos.
Elizer Mesa the first batter of the game bunted a 3-1 pitch to the left hand side and the Intimidators (13-17) third baseman had no play on is as it was a clean bunt single. Mesa was thrown out trying to steal second base, followed by 26 consecutive outs. The Intimidators had nine 1-2-3 innings in the game as they faced 27 batters total.
Buch (3-0) made his third start of the season for the Intimidators and went seven innings allowing one hit, with five strikeouts and no walks. Buch ended his outing striking out the side in the seventh. In the eighth, JR Ballinger worked a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout and Orlando Santos worked a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts.
The Intimidators have now thrown back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season and have allowed three hits over the last to games, 18 innings. The Intimidators also have not allowed a run in 20 straight innings, their longest streak of the season.
In the first inning, against starter Chris Balcom-Miller, Daniel Wagner led off with a single and was brought home on an base hit by Nick Ciolli to give the Intimidators a 1-0 lead. Balcom-Miller (1-6) went six innings, allowed four hits and one run with six strikeouts.
In the seventh, after Miguel Gonzalez reached on an error and advanced to third on a double by Juan Silverio, Wagner executed a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to bring in Gonzalez to take a 2-0 lead. The Intimidators have won 6 of their last 8 games, and have scored first in all six victories.
They look to keep their strong pitching ways about them as Matt Hopps will take to the hill opposed by 2009 first round selection Tyler Matzek at 7:05 pm at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Monday.
