International Round-Up: City Trio Return from Duty

Three of our New York City stars have been away representing their countries on the international stage this past week.

Maxime Chanot, Alex Callens and Sean Johnson jetted off with Luxembourg, Peru and the United States respectively in both competitive and friendly action.

Here's how they fared...

Maxime Chanot - Luxembourg

Maxime Chanot endured mixed fortunes as Luxembourg gained four points in the Nations League with a 3-3 draw against Turkey, and 1-0 triumph over Lithuania.

The Defender struck an unfortunate own-goal and conceded a penalty in an action-packed first half in the first game in League C, which saw the home side fight back three times in Istanbul, salvaging a point with just three minutes of normal time to play.

Chanot played the opening 45 minutes but found luck to be against him, as he upended Kerem Akturkoglu in the box before inadvertently diverting Cengiz Under's cross into the back of the net.

He enjoyed better fortunes on home soil in the second game, competing the full 90 minutes as Gerson Rodrigues' late strike snatched victory over Lithuania on Sunday.

The results mean Luxembourg secure second spot in Group 1 with 11 points from their six games - two points behind Turkey, who clinched promotion with the six-goal thriller.

Alex Callens - Peru

Alex Callens was in friendly action for Peru in their game against Mexico.

The Defender, who starred for City with goals in our Campeones Cup and Hudson River Derby victories, completed the full 90 minutes but could not prevent his side from falling to a slender defeat, thanks to Hirving Lozano's solitary strike.

Though Callens was selected in the matchday squad for the clash against El Salvador, he did not feature as Peru stormed to a 4-1 triumph.

Sean Johnson - United States

NYCFC captain Sean Johnson was included in the roster for the United States' friendly games against Japan and Saudi Arabia but remained an unused substitute for both fixtures.

The Stars and Stripes fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Japan in Germany, courtesy of goals from Daichi Kamada and Kaoru Mitoma, before registering a goalless draw with Saudi Arabia in Spain.

Matt Turner donned the gloves for the USA in their final warm-up matches before the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
