Inter Miami CF News Release
Following the team's first clean sheet and point on the road in the Club's inaugural season, Inter Miami CF will host Nashville SC in the team's second home game of the season on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. ET. The second matchup of the season between the 2020 MLS expansion franchises will take place at Inter Miami CF Stadium exactly one week after the teams faced each other for the first time ever in Nashville and will broadcast nationally on television, and regionally through radio platforms in English and Spanish. The Club will also honor Kick Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a series of initiatives during the match.
Fans across the country can watch live on FS1, while a regional audience can, as well listen on Spanish radio via Univision Miami's WQBA 1140 AM and the Uforia App. Fans worldwide can tune in to live commentary on the Club's App. Download and Register your Profile here: https://www.intermiamicf.com/en/club/app.
"I think we need to improve on the offensive end. We're generating opportunities, but we need to be more clinical when finishing. In the game against Nashville we need to improve on that aspect. We need to continue generating opportunities, but being more clinical in front of goal," said manager Diego Alonso.
As part of MLS's annual Kick Childhood Cancer campaign to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer during the month of September, prior to Sunday's match against Nashville, Inter Miami's First Team trained in tops with the logo "For Sebastian" printed on them on Friday. These tops support Sebastian Ortiz, who lost his battle with Sarcoma in December 2016.
Sunday's game will feature a commemorative gold ribbon on the adidas 2020 MLS Nativo XXV Official Match Ball, gold corner flags and goal nets, gold captain's armbands and gold ribbon jersey patches, pins for the technical staff, gold wristbands for PRO referees, digital, broadcast and in-stadium campaigns, and more as part of the Kick Childhood Cancer campaign.
Inter Miami carries on with MLS regular season action at home just four days after the team's visit to Atlanta, Ga., a match in which it secured the first clean sheet and first point on the road in franchise history by drawing 0-0 with Atlanta United FC. The game saw the team play a complete performance overall, creating the bulk of the chances in attack and defending well in what was just the fourth time Atlanta has been held scoreless at home in club history.
Sunday's matchup, which will be the Club's second MLS regular season home game of the season, could also present a number of reunions for members of both sides. Inter Miami captain and goalkeeper Luis Robles will go head to head with Nashville SC captain and former New York Red Bulls teammate Dax McCarty, who he has faced as an opponent as well. Additionally, they shared the pitch as teammates for the U.S. Men's National Team on one occasion. Robles was also teammates with Nashville midfielder Alex Muyl from 2016 to 2019 during his time as a Red Bulls player, helping the team win the 2018 Supporters' Shield.
The game will also potentially present contests between Panamanian defender Román Torres and compatriot AnÃÂbal Godoy, and midfielder Victor Ulloa and former teammate Walker Zimmerman. Torres has played alongside, and against, his fellow countryman on a number of occasions throughout his career. The two players have made 60 appearances together for the Panamanian National Team and have also faced off in three MLS regular season matches. Meanwhile, Ulloa and Zimmerman were teammates at FC Dallas from 2013 to 2017, being members of the 2016 Supporters' Shield winning side. They have faced each other four times in MLS regular season action since then.
Heading into their inaugural season in MLS, Nashville SC prioritized experience and a solid defensive unit upon building their roster. U.S. Men's National Team defender and 2019 MLS Best XI center back Zimmerman and experienced MLS midfielders McCarty and Godoy make up the spine of the expansion side. In 2020, Nashville has thus far compiled a record of two wins, two draws and four losses.
