COLUMBIA, S.C. (May 2, 2008)-The Columbia Inferno beat the South Carolina Stingrays 5-3 on Friday night to stave off elimination and cut the Rays lead in the best-of-five series to 2-1.

Daniel Sparre gave the Inferno a 1-0 lead just 2:22 into the first period when he picked up a Steve McJannet rebound and roofed a quick shot up over Davis Parley's blocker on the power play. The Stingrays tied the game at 9:59 when Travis Morin slammed a Sean Collins rebound past Todd Ford. Morin netted his second of the night, and gave the Stingrays their only lead, when he was able to put another rebound past Ford at 16:15. Jeff Miles tied the game at 2-2 for the Inferno with just 12 seconds left when, again on the power play, he picked up a Mac Faulkner rebound on the doorstep and beat Parley.

Liam Huculak reclaimed the Inferno's lead when, at 2:28 of the second period, he received a pass from Reid Cashman in the slot, spun around and fired a wrister low past Parley's blocker side. Trent Campbell tied the game 3-3 at 11:13 of the second when he beat Ford low on the stick side for a shorthanded goal.

The third period belonged to Inferno center Peter Tsimikalis, as the Toronto Marlies prospect gave Columbia a 4-3 lead at 15:11 when, a split-second after winning an offensive-zone faceoff, he torqued a sharp shot into the top of the net over Parley's blocker. Tsimikalis iced the game at 19:45 when his backhander from the mid-slot evaded defenders and sailed into the empty net.

Parley finished with 33 saves on 37 shots, while Ford stopped 36 of 39.

The Inferno will host the Stingrays for Game 4 of the South Division Finals on Saturday, May 3 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 803.256.7825 or by logging on to columbiainferno.com.
