Goldie Brothers Are First Teammates To Lead ECHL In Goals

PRINCETON, N.J. - Wes Goldie and Ash Goldie of the Victoria Salmon Kings became the first set of teammates as well as the first set of brothers to lead the ECHL in goal scoring after finishing with 42 goals and 40 goals, respectively.

Ash Goldie was fourth in the league with 83 points in 70 games while Wes Goldie had 61 points in 72 games after leading the Salmon Kings in 2006-07 with 41 goals and 74 points in 72 games.

Wes Goldie was second in the league in 2006-07 with 41 goals in 72 games for Victoria while Ash Goldie tied for third with 39 goals in 67 games for Long Beach. The two finished tied for 13th with 74 points.

In the last two seasons, Wes Goldie is first with 83 goals in 144 games and Ash Goldie is second with 79 goals in 137 games. Kevin Baker of Texas is third with 65 goals in 106 games followed by Jean-Michel Daoust with 59 goals in 107 games and Marty Flichel of Idaho with 58 goals in 134 games.

They are the 18th set of teammates to each score 40 goals and the first since Scott King (40g) and Mathieu Benoit (43g) of Charlotte and Andrew Williamson (52g) and James Patterson (40g) of Toledo in 2000-01.

The duo made history in October when they became the first set of brothers in the ECHL since Rob Valicevic and Chris Valicevic in 1995-96 to record a hat trick in the same season. Wes scored his hat trick in a 4-3 win against Las Vegas on Oct. 27 while Ash registered the first of his league-leading four hat tricks on Oct. 31 against Bakersfield. Ash recorded his second three-goal game on Dec. 21 against Alaska and added his third on Jan. 27 at Alaska before scoring his fourth on Mar. 26 at Stockton.

Ash had another hat trick and set the league record with six points in the ECHL All-Star Game. He was named the Most Valuable Player after he scored a goal in each period with his final tally coming 22 seconds into the third period to set the record for fastest goal at the beginning of a period. Wes has scored a hat trick in each of his last four ECHL seasons with Pee Dee in 2002-03 and 2003-04 and with Victoria in 2006-07 and 2007-08.

Chris Ferraro (2g-3a) and Peter Ferraro (0g-4a) of the Las Vegas Wranglers combined for nine points in a 7-5 win at Utah on Dec. 15, breaking the ECHL record for most points in a game by brothers. The Ferraro twins surpassed the seven points scored by Rob Valicevic (2g-2a) and Chris Valicevic (1g-2a) of Louisiana in a 7-5 win against Jackson on Feb. 16, 1996. Wes Goldie (2g-2a) and Ash Goldie (1g-2a) tied the Valicevic brothers record on Mar. 19 against Utah.

Ash Goldie and Wes Goldie have combined for 527 points (298g-229a) in 612 regular season games to rank second in goals and fourth in points among brother combinations in the ECHL. Wes Goldie has 333 points (197g-136a) in 411 games and Ash Goldie has 194 points (101g-93a) in 201 games.

The all-time leaders are the Bermingham brothers with 866 points (360g-506a) in 881 games as Jason Bermingham had 278 points (134g-144a) in 381 games and Jim Bermingham had 588 points (226g-362a) in 500 games.

The second-highest scorers are the Valicevic brothers with 682 points (200g-482a) in 658 games as Chris Valicevic had 611 points (151g-460a) in 590 games and Rob Valicevic had 71 points (49g-22a) in 68 games.

Ranking third are the Parsons brothers with 591 points (288g-303a) in 514 games as Don Parsons had 468 points (248g-220a) in 377 games and Brad Parsons had 123 points (40g-83a) in 137 games.
