Indianapolis, IN - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost by a score of 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning to the Indianapolis Indians on Saturday night in front of 13,284. Alex Presley singled home the winning run with one out in the ninth to give the Indians a 2-0 series lead.

Indianapolis (62-60) scored first for the second straight night in the series. Indians third baseman John Bowker reached on a one out single in the second inning facing Chiefs starter Andrew Kown. Eric Kratz followed with a single to move Bowker to second, and then Pedro Ciriaco doubled in Bowker to give the Tribe a 1-0 lead after two.

The Indians would score again in the sixth partly thanks to back to back singles from Presley and Brandon Moss to start the inning. Kown was pulled from the game with just one out in the fifth in favor of Joe Bisenius. The first batter he faced was Ciriaco who used a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 in favor of Indianapolis.

Kown finished the night throwing 5 1/3 innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs, walking three and striking out four.

Syracuse (62-59) didn't score until the eighth inning. Danny Espinosa walked to start the frame, stole second, and Brian Bixler knocked him in to cut the lead to 2-1. The score stayed that way heading to the top of the ninth inning. With two down and Boomer Whiting on base, Danny Espinosa chose a prime time for his third home run as a Chief. On a 2-2 count, he went deep to center and gave Syracuse a 3-2 lead.

The bottom of the ninth proved to be the downfall of Syracuse on Saturday night. Adam Carr, the Chiefs closer, came on to pitch and allowed a leadoff double to Ciriaco. Brian Friday tripled off the wall in center to score Ciriaco and tie the game at three. Syracuse then intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases, and brought five players to the infield and just two in the outfield. Atahualpa Severino was tabbed to come out of the bullpen to try and send the game to extras. He got Akinori Iwamura to pop out, but Presley got the game winning single for the 4-3 walk-off win.

The Chiefs and Indians will go back at it starting at 2:00 on Sunday. Righty Jordan Zimmermann (0-0,0.00) is scheduled to go for the Chiefs against Indy's Jeremy Powell (8-8, 5.24).
