Game Three | Hitting Third Gear
Indy Eleven face newly formed USL League One side Forward Madison FC on February 22 in a closed-door friendly in Rockford, Illinois ahead of the 2019 USL Championship regular season. The match will be the third of the 2019 preseason for the Boys in Blue and Forward Madison's inaugural game as a professional side.
Indy is currently undefeated in the preseason, maintaining a 1W-0L-1D record going into the third fixture. Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati fell 3-2 at the feet of Indiana's Team. Goals from midfielder Matt Watson and new in Blue forward Dane Kelly helped Indy Eleven Head Coach Martin Rennie secure the first win of 2019.
Rennie will look to continue the preseason success against a Forward Madison side that features two former Indy Eleven members.
The first of which is former Boy in Blue midfielder Don Smart, who was Madison's first signing. The Jamaican is second in all-time appearances for Indy, boasting 101 appearances and tied for fourth on the all-time goals scored list with 10. Smart was the former appearances leader before being taken over by recently retired midfielder Brad Ring in the 2018 season.
The side will also feature former Indy Eleven forward Paulo Junior, who signed with the side on September 18, 2017. The Brazilian forward spent the tail end of the 2017 season with the Boys in Blue making nine appearances for the squad and the 2018 season with Penn FC scoring four goals.
Indiana's Team's third friendly will be the first played away from home. The first two matches both took place at Grand Park, the team's training facility. After facing Forward Madison in Illinois, the Boys in Blue return to Grand Park to face USL League One side Lansing Ignite.
