Indy Eleven News Release

INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, June 3, 2014) - The potential pairings for the fifth round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup were determined this morning at U.S. Soccer House. With a win over Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew in the fourth round on Tuesday, June 17, Indy Eleven learned it would face off against the winner of the Chicago Fire (MLS) vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL PRO League) contest on either Tuesday, June 24 or Wednesday, June 25.

Should the third-division Riverhounds pull off the fourth round upset, Indy Eleven would play host to Pittsburgh at Michael A. Carroll Stadium at IUPUI on Wednesday, June 25, at 7:30 p.m. ET. Ticket information for a potential fifth round date against the Riverhounds will be announced by Indy Eleven in the near future.

A match-up against the four-time U.S. Open Cup champion Fire - all of which were captured under the watch of current Indy Eleven President/GM Peter Wilt - would take place at their home of Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., on either June 24 or 25, with kickoff set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

Before either of those scenarios can take place, Indy Eleven will first need to get past the Crew, which will host the Hoosier State side in two weeks' time at FirstEnergy Stadium on the campus of the University of Akron at 7:30 p.m. ET.

All Indy Eleven fans are invited to make the trip to northeast Ohio on June 17 as part of the Brickyard Battalion supporters group's road trip, which for $40 includes round-trip charter bus transportation, a ticket to the match and food and drink specials to enjoy along the way.

The Fire-Riverhounds contest is set for an 8:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Toyota Park on Wednesday, June 18. Thirty-two of a record 80 participating teams remain in the running in this year's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, which returns to action with fourth-round play June 11-18. Fifth-round winners will advance to the tournament's quarterfinals, set for July 8-9.

The winner of this year's 101st edition of American soccer's national championship tournament will receive one of the four spots issued to U.S.-based teams in the 2015/16 edition of the CONCACAF Champions League, the continental club championship for teams in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Played annually since 1914, The Cup is the oldest cup competition in the country and is a single elimination tournament open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States. The tournament has crowned a champion for 100 consecutive years dating back to 1914. This year's winner will earn $250,000 and have its name engraved on the historic Dewar Challenge Trophy, one of the oldest nationally contested trophies in American team sports. The runner-up will take home $60,000, while the team that advances the furthest from each lower division will earn a $15,000 cash prize.
