Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss – Friday night two more goals from Don Parsons were not enough to overcome some solid surges of play from Indianapolis as the Ice chilled the ‘Kings 5-4. With the win Indy extended their lead in the Northeast Division to 11 points with nine games to play. The RiverKings travel to Indianapolis for a rematch on Saturday and then return home against Fort Worth on Sunday. Face-off Sunday night is set for 6:05 p.m. For tickets call (662) 342-1755 or go online at www.RiverKings.com and use the Ticketmaster link.

The RiverKings came out and dominated play in the first 12 minutes of the game, but were unable to get on the scoreboard. The Ice got the only goal as Jared Dumba scored on a power play at 12:06 for a 1-0 Indy lead.

After 20 minutes of play the Ice carried the lead, but Don Parsons tallied just 39 ticks into the period and followed it up with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 2:59 for his league leading 49th of the season to put the ‘Kings ahead. Instead of the RiverKings rolling with the momentum, the Ice came to life as Baird fired home his 24th at 5:29. Ryan Carter swept in a rebound past Mark Richards at 10:55 to put the Ice back ahead on Carter's 7th goal of the season. He was followed at 14:27 by a Justin Kearns roof shot for his 8th of the season and a 4-3 Ice lead.

In the third, Jonathan Gagnon continued his hot play as he scored the ‘Kings second 5-on-3 goal of the game at 3:16 to pull the ‘Kings within a marker. Gagnon has now scored goals in three straight games and has tallied points in 8 straight with his 22nd of the year. The Ice reclaimed a two-goal advantage when Greg Olsen teed up a laser that zipped over the shoulder of Richards for his 9th goal at 9:20. The ‘Kings added a late goal when Michal Stastny tipped in his 18th of the year at 18:29. FINAL SCORE Indianapolis 5, Memphis 4.

In what began as a defensive wash early, but erupted into a goal-fest, Mark Richards finished with 16 saves on 21 shots to drop to 11-11-1. Jamie Morris stopped 32 of 36 RiverKings shots to improve to 9-3-4, including 3-0-1 versus Memphis.
