
Indians Sign Former First Round Pick Darnell McDonald

The Cleveland Indians announced today that they have signed outfielder and former first round pick Darnell McDonald to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training camp.
McDonald, 26, spent most of the 2004 season with the Ottawa Lynx (Baltimore Orioles), where he hit .234 (96-410) with 32 doubles, seven home runs and 44 RBI in 107 games. He also stole 12 bases in 18 attempts for a 67 percent success rate. During the season, he made four stints with the Orioles (5-32, .156, 17 games), his first big league action.
McDonald is a former first round pick of the Orioles in the 1997 draft (26th overall) out of Cherry Creek High School outside Denver, Colorado where he was a high school teammate of former Bisons catcher Josh Bard. McDonald owns a career minor league average of .259 with 157 doubles, 41 home runs, 332 RBI and 127 stolen bases in 793 career games.
