Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane Indians manager Andy Fox was named the first base coach for the Major League Florida Marlins on Saturday. A new manager for the Indians will be named in the near future.
Fox, 36, was a member of the Marlins 2003 World Series' Championship team. He will fill the vacancy created when the Marlins' current first base coach unexpectedly retired just a week before the start of the Major League season.
"This is a great opportunity for Andy and we are quite happy for him," said Indians Managing Partner, Bobby Brett. "It is a complement to the type of field staff the Rangers assign Spokane that they get hired right from here and go directly to the Big Leagues."
Prior to being named the Spokane Indians manager, Fox was the skipper for the Class-A Clinton LumberKings in 2006.
The Texas Rangers, Spokane's major league affiliate, hires the manager and coaching staff for the team. The Rangers have already begun the process of filling the Spokane managerial position and should have a replacement in place soon.
The Indians season opens on June 19th at Avista Stadium versus the Eugene Emeralds. Season ticket and mini-plan packages are on sale now. Call the Indians office for more information at 535-2922 and Make it an Indians Summer!
