RICHMOND, VA-Mark Smith, Bill Hall, and Jason Conti each homered as Indianapolis defeated the Richmond Braves 9-2 at The Diamond Friday. The loss snapped a five-game Richmond winning streak.

The Indians plated nine runs on eight hits and a walk off Braves' starter Jason Marquis (1-1). Smith launched a two-run homer in the first inning to give Indianapolis an early 2-0 lead. The Indians stretched the lead to 5-0 in the third on a Wilton Veras' single and a double off the bat of Pete Zoccolillo. Conti led off the fourth with a home run to extend the lead to 6-0. Mark Budzinski singled in Steve Scarborough later in the sixth to chase Marquis from the game. Hall greeted reliever Derrick Lewis with a two-run blast over the centerfield fence as Indianapolis ran their lead to 9-0.

David Manning (1-0) earned the victory for the Indians, scattering five hits over seven frames with the lone run he allowed coming off a Jesse Garcia groundout. Richmond scored an unearned run on an error by third baseman Wilton Veras in the ninth.

Budzinski, Hall, and Conti led the Indians with three hits apiece, while Donzell McDonald and Damon Hollins each had two safeties for the Braves.

The Braves and Indians meet again Saturday at The Diamond in a 4:00 p.m. game. The radio broadcast can be heard on WXGI AM 950 beginning at 3:45 p.m.
