THE FIREBIRDS:
With one game remaining, the Indiana Firebirds are playing for a chance at the 2004 AFL playoffs this week in Chi-Town. The Firebirds are currently riding a two-game winning streak, following two close victories at Conseco Fieldhouse over Detroit and Colorado. Indiana has been defined by the turnover battle all season. Indiana led the league in turnover margin during their AFL-long 6-game winning streak, and remain among the leagues best in that category (T-2nd, +14). With last week's win, Indiana is positioned ½ game from the final playoff spot, occupied by four teams (8-6). During the Firebirds 6-game winning streak QB Adrian McPherson did not throw an interception, however he did throw three in the Firebirds' brief, two-game losing streak. Despite the interceptions, McPherson has continued to impress in his rookie campaign completing 219 of 364 passes for 3,045 yards, 58 TD and 5 interceptions. He also is second in the AFL in rushing at 244 yards and 18 touchdowns. Even in their early season losing streak Indiana looked impressive, losing three games by a combined total of 9 points. The defense has been rock solid, ranking in the top ten in the league in scoring throughout the 2004 season. The Firebirds also appear to have developed depth at the receiver position. OS Mike Horacek, who has missed significant time with an injury has watched long-time Firebird Evan Hlavacek, receivers Brett Bech, Anthony Hines (13 receptions for 196 yards 4/3 at Colorado), Jordan Younger, and newcomer Andy McCullough (4 receptions for 77 yards and 2 touchdown 4/25 vs. Arizona) dazzle opponents.

THE RUSH:
Chicago enters this weekend's matchup, having already secured a playoff spot with their win over Dallas last week. At 10-4 the Rush will battle New Orleans, San Jose, and Arizona to get the top seed entering post-season play. QB Raymond Philyaw has been impressive, passing for nearly 2,700 yards, 46 touchdowns, and only four interceptions. OS Etu Molden leads receivers with 89 receptions for 1,117 yards and 20 touchdowns. In a similar situation last season, the Rush defeated the Firebirds in overtime to end the 2003 season for Indiana, eliminating the Firebirds from playoff contention.

Last Week: "It was a playoff game, and we're going to have to focus on next week also being a playoff-type game."
Firebirds OL/DL Chris Snyder on...
Playing a Colorado Team loaded with ex-Firebirds: "It got a little dirty out there, but that's kind of how it's going to be. It's very emotional playing against each other like that. Nobody wants to stand down and look at your buddy after they've beaten you."

QB Raymond Philyaw has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. One of his primary targets has been OS Jeremy McDaniel with 62 receptions for 782 yards.

READY TO RUN
While the Indiana rushing attack has become more balanced, it remains effective. QB Adrian McPherson has led the ground game with 244 yards and 18 touchdowns. Leroy Thompson is having another stellar season with 113 rushing yards. The Firebirds have added a third threat on the ground in 2004 with Jarrod Penright. Penright has rushed for 119 yards this season. The Firebirds are currently first in the AFL in team rushing.

STUDENT TOPS THE TEACHER, AGAIN
For the second time in as many tries Firebirds Coach Mike Wilpolt defeated his former boss Mike Dailey, when Indiana won 59-56 last week. Colorado head coach Mike Dailey spent the past 12 years in the Firebirds organization, seven as the head coach. Dailey took the Firebirds to a 1999 ArenaBowl Championship victory and posted a 63-44 record with the franchise. Dailey's special teams coach on the 1999 championship team was current Firebirds head coach Mike Wilpolt. Wilpolt spent five years as an assistant under Coach Dailey in Indiana and Albany.

INSTANT SUCCESS
Rookie quarterback Adrian McPherson has made twelve starts for Indiana, and has been named the Offensive Player of the Game seven times. McPherson has had very strong showings in his rookie campaign (219-364, 3,045 yards, 58 TDs). Opening day starter Kevin Daft was impressive, but an injury forced him out of the game against Columbus, and Daft has not seen the field since. af2 Offensive Player of the Year in 2003 Tony Zimmerman, replaced Daft, and despite showing signs of brilliance, struggled at times.

SINGLE-GAME LEADERS
The Firebirds top the league in a few individual single-game stats:
- Adrian McPherson' s 11 carries in a week three loss to Detroit is an AFL season high for 2004.
- Adrian McPherson's 64 rushing yards in a week 14 win over Detroit is a season high for the league.
- Adrian McPherson's 332 passing yards in a week nine victory over Colorado rank as the 12th best passing performance in the AFL this season.
- Clay Rush's 59-yard field goal against Austin was the longest successful field goal in the AFL this season. Rush also converted a 57-yard field goal in week ten.
- Anthony Hines 196-yard receiving game against Colorado ranks as the fourth best receiving performance this season.
- Anthony Hines 166-yard receiving game against Detroit ranks as the 14th best receiving performance this season.

CLAY CAN KICK
Firebirds K Clay Rush proved again in 2004 why he is considered one of the top kickers in the AFL. Rush leads all kickers in touchbacks with 46, is second among all kickers in points with 124, and has the longest converted field goal of the season with a 59-yard kick.

DOUBLE-THREAT
QB Adrian McPherson ranks second in the league in rushing, and first among quarterbacks. McPherson has rushed for 244 yards and 18 touchdowns. The 20-year old rookie has also shown the ability to be a great passer completing 204 of 340 passes with 50 touchdowns and five interceptions, for 2,779 yards. Those stats are good enough to rank McPherson with the leagues best passers. McPherson has had as much of an impact as any rookie in the league.

HINES HEROICS
With an injury forcing OS Mike Horacek to the bench, rookie Anthony Hines has excelled. In his first three games at OS Hines recorded 26 receptions for 398 receiving yards. Hines leads the team with 68 receptions and 928 receiving yards.
