Charlotte Independence News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Independence today officially announced that Jamaican striker Brian Brown has been loaned to the USL club for the 2016 season by Harbour View FC of the Red Stripe Premier League (Jamaican First Division). He is the 11th new player to reach agreement with the Independence for 2016, and brings the current roster of contracted players up to 20.
Brown, who made his full international debut for Jamaica in November 2013 against Trinidad and Tobago, joins the Independence after most recently playing for the Indy Eleven of NASL. The striker made 24 appearances for the club in 2015, scoring five goals. Prior to his stint in Indianapolis, Brown recorded 250 productive minutes of action with the Philadelphia Union of MLS. He scored two goals and added an assist across eight appearances in the second half of the 2014 season.
"Brian has a great goal-scoring history and we're looking for him to come up with us and be a very dynamic presence up front and a capable finisher," said Independence Head Coach Mike Jeffries. "He brings an excellent work rate, the ability to combine with the other attacking players and, most importantly, quality getting on the end of plays and finishing."
A native of Sandy Bay, Jamaica, Brown began his professional career with Montego Bay United of the Red Stripe Premier League. He made 17 appearances and scored three goals in the 2012-13 season. Brown then joined Harbor View, where he had a breakout season in 2013-14. The forward tallied a league-best 18 goals in 32 appearances, earning the RSPL Golden Boot Award.
Brown is now eligible to play in the Independence's next match, a home contest against Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday, April 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm ET at Ramblewood Soccer Complex. Tickets are available at www.charlotteindependence.com/tickets or by calling 704-206-1515.
