Impact U21 Wins 8-1 against St. Catharines in CSL Game

Rivière-des-Prairies, Quebec - Two goals apiece by Wandrille Lefevre and Maxim Tissot helped the Montreal Impact U21 team earn its first win of the 2012 Canadian Soccer League season on Sunday. The home team won in convincing fashion, 8-1, versus the St. Catharines Roma Wolves, at the Centre Sportif St-Jean-Vianney, in RDP.

"We are vey pleased with the result and with the way we played today," said U21 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "Despite the score, we maintained our rhythm throughout. We took advantage of the opportunities that came our way, being a man up most of the game."

The Wolves lost forward Jon Maurizio in the 14th minute when he was ejected from the game following a dangerous tackle on midfielder Wandrille Lefevre.

"We have started the season well with a win and a tie," added captain Karl W. Ouimette. "We need to continue to play well. We were able to remain focused despite certain elements in this game."

The Wolves opened the scoring in the 2nd minute on a penalty shot by midfielder Rogario Calvin.

In the 29th minute, Lefevre evened things up on a penalty, beating Wolves' goalkeeper Claudio Perri to his right.

Three minutes later, forward Stefan Vukovic made a nice offensive play versus two Wolves defenders to set up midfielder Maxim Tissot, putting the Impact ahead for good. Tissot was able to convert Vukovic's hard work with a cross crease shot that went far post.

Tissot hit his second in the 35th minute following a nice ball played through midfield. Moving in alone on the goalkeeper down the left side of the field, Tissot buried his shot low, short side.

In the 44th minute, the Wolves goalkeeper made two consecutive point blank saves off of Zakaria Messoudi, but the Impact midfielder redeemed himself in the 53rd minute when he scored the fourth of the game for the home team.

Meftouh (75th), Lefevre (77th), Victor Ndiaye (81st) and Alexander King (86th) completed the scoring for the Impact U21 in the second half.

Tissot was forced to leave the game following a solid collision with Wolves' forward Ross Campbell on the last play of the first half. Next game

The U21s will play its next two games on the road, against SC Toronto on May 25 at 8pm, at Lamport Stadium, and the following day against the Mississauga Eagles FC at 7pm.

The team plays its next game at home on Sunday, June 3, at the Centre Sportif St-Jean-Vianney, at 2pm against the TFC Academy. The game is open to the public and admittance is free.
