Club de Foot Montreal News Release
ORLANDO, Florida - The Montreal Impact will play its second game of the preseason, Wednesday at 3pm (ET), facing off against the Tampa Bay Rowdies (NASL) as part of the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic tournament, presented at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The game will once again be streamed live on cd70e8dde5019c022c5d70b5f impactmontreal.com.
"We will be looking to go with a different starting 11 for this game," said Impact assistant coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "Certain players will be given more playing time and we will look to try out different combinations. However, this game is still as important to us as it is for Tampa Bay. We want to win this tournament, so this game is crucial."
The two clubs will meet for the first time since the Impact joined MLS, having faced off against Tampa Bay on six occasions in the NASL in 2010 and 2011. The teams have split the series evenly, going 2-2-2 over that span.
The Rowdies are coming off their first ever playoff championship in 2012 against the Minnesota Stars. Tampa Bay finished the regular season in second place with a record of 12-9-7.
In its first game of the tournament, the Rowdies fell 4-0 to D.C. United, having only 13 players currently under contract and having eight players on trial on its roster for the event. However, the team can count on veterans Takuya Yamada, Luke Mulholland and Mike Ambersley in its lineup, along with defender Andres Arango, who played a total of 23 games for the Impact in the North American second division, in 2003 and 2007.
The Impact won its first matchup of the tournament by a 2-1 score last Saturday against Sporting Kansas City. The onze montrealais will play the Philadelphia Union on Friday at 7:30pm at EverBank Field, in Jacksonville in a friendly before heading back to Orlando to take on D.C. United on Saturday in its third game of the Disney Pro Classic.
