Ilija Gajic Nabs NLL Rookie Honors

DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth and the National Lacrosse League announced today that Ilija Gajic has been named Rookie of the Week for his efforts this past weekend.

The rookie forward, and second-overall pick in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft, picked up the first award of his young NLL career with the honor. Gajic, who played college lacrosse at Denver University scored four goals and tallied three assists for the Mammoth in a 14-13 loss to the Edmonton Rush on Saturday. Through two games, he's tallied 10 total points (6 goals, 4 assists) so far in the young season.

"We are very proud of Ilija's start to the season and expect him to continue to grow into his new role with the team," commented Mammoth president, general manager and interim head coach Steve Govett.

Gajic, the middle of three brothers donning Mammoth jerseys in 2010, also led the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the Western Lacrosse Association to a spot in the Mann Cup in 2008, registering 51 points in 14 regular-season games played. The 24-year-old Burnaby, British Columbia native played three seasons of college lacrosse at the University of Denver before becoming an immediate impact player in the National Lacrosse League.

Colorado hits the road this weekend for games in Minnesota on Friday night and Philadelphia on Saturday night. The next home game for Colorado is Saturday, January 30th as the Washington Stealth visits Pepsi Center on Heroes' Night. Game time is 7pm and tickets are on sale now.
