QUOTING INDIANS MANAGER TRENT JEWETT:
(on Ronny Paulino's last at-bat) "Ronny thought I was going to pinch-hit for him and, to be honest, that was the furthest thing from my mind. Ronny had been struggling at the plate, but he's got an enormous heart and that really showed tonight. He came through with the biggest hit of our season and, now, we have a chance to play for a league championship.
(on the team's performance Sunday evening) "Our bullpen did a terrific job tonight. Mark (Corey) was out there for the fourth straight night, but he's the type of guy who's willing to do whatever it takes for this team to win. I also thought our defense was outstanding. J.J. (Furmaniak) and Jorge (Velandia) were fantastic up the middle and our outfielders covered a lot of ground.
(on the team) "The guys in this clubhouse showed a great deal of heart tonight. They believed in what we were asking them to do. I couldn't be prouder of 28 terrific guys. They've been through a lot this season, and now it's down to a five-game series for all the marbles."
THE LAST PLAYOFF RUN WAS A GOOD ONE:
The Tribe's last playoff run -- in 2000 -- was a very memorable one. Indianapolis captured both the International League Championship and Triple-A World Series. The Indians rolled past Durham (3-2) in the first round, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (3-2) in the IL Governors' Cup and Memphis (3-1) in the last Triple-A World Series that was played.
