Ike the Spike Reaches MiLB Mascot Mania Finals

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - Ike the Spike has made a magical run in MiLB.com's Mascot Mania competition thanks to the votes of State College Spikes fans. Now Ike will need Spikes fans to help him more than ever as the dynamic deer has advanced to the championship matchup, where he will face Orbit from the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

A late surge in voting on the final day of the semifinals Thursday sent Ike past Phinley from the Advanced-A Clearwater Threshers. Ike has now downed five mascots over the past four weeks, including Rascal from the Harrisburg Senators, the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor from the Reading Phillies, Paws from the Pawtucket Red Sox, and Nutzy from the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Voting is now open for the final round, and will run right up until midnight ET on Monday, June 18, the day before the Spikes' 2012 Home Opener, at www.milb.com/mascotmania. All fans can vote up to 25 times daily, and each vote equals an entry into the MiLB.com Mascot Mania Sweepstakes for a chance to win a variety of prizes, including subscriptions to MLB.TV and MiLB.TV, in addition to mascot-themed prize packs.

Spikes fans should also keep their eyes on State CollegeSpikes.com for another video from Ike encouraging fans to help him overcome the last obstacle separating him from the Mascot Mania title.

Ike, along with his pals the Nittany Bank Nookie Monster and Bob the Baseball Dog, will be on hand as the Spikes begin the 2012 home slate at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with the Home Opener against the Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies) on Tuesday, June 19 at 7:05 p.m.

The Home Opener will mark the first of five home dates in six days as part of Spikes Opening Week from June 19-24. Single-game tickets for Opening Week, as well as all 38 Spikes regular season home games, are currently on sale through the Spikes Box Office by calling (814) 272-1711 or by visiting in person weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fans can also buy and print single-game tickets at StateCollegeSpikes.com.
