IFL Stories: Brooke Giltner

May 7, 2024 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Within the Indoor Football League, there's a drive to continue reaching further. For players, it could be earning a roster spot in the league they've dreamt of playing in since they were a child. However, players aren't the only members of the league making vertical moves.

Since being founded in 2008, the IFL prides itself on being a springboard for everyone in the league, no matter the role.

Brooke Giltner is a great example of this.

Giltner, most recently with the Green Bay Blizzard as the head athletic trainer, has taken her experience from the football arena to the baseball diamond after six years and five seasons with the Blizzard. In her new role, she's an assistant athletic trainer for the Seattle Mariners' High-A affiliate, the Everett AquaSox.

For as long as she could remember, Brooke Giltner knew she wanted to work within the medical field; and with a deep-rooted passion for sports growing up, becoming an athletic trainer was a logical choice.

In 2018, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science in athletic training, planning on working in high school athletics. While working on an as-needed basis with Aurora BayCare, a job with the Green Bay Blizzard opened that would eventually become a major turning point in her career. Giltner applied for the position, having memories of attending Blizzard games as a child. After getting the job and watching a few games to refresh her memory, an instant love for the game formed.

Throughout her six years with the team, she always said, "I grew up with the Green Bay Blizzard." Starting the position fresh out of college, she didn't really know what to expect going into a job in professional sports. However, from her first day until her last, Brooke Giltner grew tremendously as a professional. Through her time with the Blizzard, she remains forever thankful to the Indoor Football League for this experience, proving professional sports is the place for her.

Along the way, Brooke Giltner had her fair share of important figures rooting her on. Becky Donnay, along with other Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine staff, stand out as people who helped make her transition into professional sports seamless. Becky Donnay was an important mentor for her professionally, and she played big role in Brooke's professional development.

Additionally, Kathy Treankler was another important figure in growing Brooke's love for working in professional sports. Treankler is the Co-Owner of the Green Bay Blizzard, and she was a phenomenal mentor for Giltner. Without the mentorship passed down from Kathy Treankler, she doesn't see herself being in the spot she's in today.

As her career continues to ascend, there it one piece of advice she gives to the future generation of sports medicine: Network, network, network. On top of gaining experience in the field every chance you can, networking is an important part of a career in sports medicine. As she believes, "You never know when you'll meet someone with the ability to help take your career to the next level." In this case, the hard work and people met along the way were what helped her get to the next level of her career.

The Indoor Football League understand the importance of great people like Brooke Giltner. High quality, driven individuals in every role and at every level. This ensures the success of the teams and league. This is also why the IFL has been a platform for players, coaches, trainers and others to continue to grow and ascend in their field. To be a successful league, it must be comprised of people driven to succeed themselves.
