Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho – Jeremy Mylymok scored twice, including the eventual game-winner in the third period, as Idaho held off Anchorage 7-5 before 4,811 Sunday evening at the Bank of America Centre.

Goaltender Ryan Person, who had turned away 30 shots in losing a 4-3 decision the night before, stopped all 16 he faced in the first period and Kimbi Daniels gave Anchorage the lead with a wrist shot five minutes into the game, just as an Aces' power play expired. The second period featured a slew of power play goals, beginning with Dampy Brar's tally just 24 seconds into the frame that tied the game for Idaho. Mylymok scored 39 seconds later to give the Steelheads their first lead, and Ben Keup's one-timer at 6:26 increased the margin to 3-1.

But Anchorage continued its recent hot streak on the man advantage, as Yvan Corbin and Kevin McNeill scored two minutes apart midway through the second period to tie the game once more. Both goals came after tripping penalties against Idaho's Scott Burt, and Corbin's gave him a league-best 34 on the season. Adam Copeland tipped in a Marty Flichel drive from between the circles to regain the lead for the Steelheads at 13:41, and Burt atoned for his two penalties with a goal two minutes later to extend the margin to 5-3. Daniels beat Idaho starter Blair Allison for the second time with 2:53 left in the period to bring Anchorage within a single goal heading into the final 20 minutes.

Mylymok tucked a backhander past Person at 8:48 of the third period, and 30 seconds later, Copeland rammed home a rebound for his second of the night and a 7-4 bulge. Carl Drakensjo scored 40 seconds after Copeland's goal to whittle the deficit to two, but the Aces again found their scoring chances severely limited over the final 10 minutes, managing just six shots in the third period. Anchorage (12-39-2) has won just three of its last 26 games, while the Steelheads extended their club-record unbeaten streak to 12.

Anchorage and Idaho (39-10-4) continue this stretch of five consecutive games against one another next Friday and Saturday in Sullivan Arena at 7:00 p.m.—for tickets, please call 258-ACES.
