Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads swept the Anchorage Aces winning the last game of the three-game series at the Bank of America Centre before 4,811 fans in a rare Sunday night game. The Steelheads are now 13-1 against the Aces this season; 8-0 at home and 5-1 in Anchorage. The only scoring of the first period came from Anchorage. Kimbi Daniels drove one past Idaho's netminder Blair Allison at the five-minute mark, with Paul Williams and Carl Drakensjo each recording an assist on the tally.
Idaho had a two-man advantage for 27 seconds at the 13:54 mark but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity. They ended the period with 45 seconds left on another power play and down by one.
Just 24 seconds into the second period the Steelheads scored a power play goal to tie the game at one apiece. Marty Flichel shot one off the post, it slid along the crease behind Aces goaltender Ryan Person to Dampy Brar who snapped it in. Then, at 1:03 Jeremy Mylymok scored on a pass from Jeff Shevalier to give Idaho a 2-1 lead. The Steelheads took a two-goal lead at 6:26 when Ben Keup one-timed one past Person on the power play. The Aces pulled within one when Yvan Corbin blew one past Allison at 6:49 with Idaho's Scott Burt in the box on a tripping call. Anchorage used yet another power play to their advantage when Burt was sent to the box again.
This time it was Kevin McNeill who scored the equalizer at 10:48 to tie the game at three. Steelheads jumped ahead with the man advantage when Adam Copeland tipped one in on a deflection from a shot by Marty Flichel at 13:41. Then Burt got his payback for the two goals scored while he was in the penalty box. He skated it in from the blue line and got a wrister up high and over Person's glove at 15:55. Anchorage's Daniels got another past Allison at 17:07 to end the period with the Steelheads up 5-4.
Jeremy Mylymok scored his second goal of the night at 8:48 of the third period. He gathered up his own rebound and slipped one between Person's legs. Shermerhorn picked up his third assist of the night on the goal. Less than a minute later Adam Copeland also scored his second of the game.
The Aces pulled Person and had the extra attacker for 22 seconds, but it was to no avail. Up next for the Steelheads: A trip to Anchorage to play a two-game set on February 22nd and 23rd.
