Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Corpus Christi IceRays, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), today announced the team has added Trevor Jewell to the club's coaching staff in the role of assistant coach.
The Muskegon, Mich., native began his coaching career three years ago with the Charlotte Jr. Checkers before joining the Charlotte Rush. With the Rush, Jewell served as the organization's head coach in the USP3HL and as an assistant coach for the USPHL Elite team. He helped guide the Rush to two consecutive USPHL national championship games.
"I am very excited about the addition of Trevor," said IceRays head coach Ryan Cruthers. "Over the last three years, we have had a history of success while coaching together, culminating with a (USPHL) championship in 2017. Trevor understands the culture and structure we are working to implement in Corpus Christi on and off the ice. Having played at the collegiate and minor-league level, the players gain a passionate coach who will be crucial in developing our defensemen."
Jewell played junior hockey for the Peoria Mustangs of the former CSHL from 2007-09, then served as captain of the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats men's ice hockey team from 2009-13, registering 73 points (31-42-73) as a defenseman. His coaching career began after playing minor-league hockey for the SPHL's Huntsville Havoc and Bloomington Thunder, as well as the FHL's Watertown Privateers. Jewell, 30, replaces assistant coach Ryan Anderson effective immediately.
Coming off a bye weekend, the IceRays continue a season-long, 13-game homestand this weekend with a pair of games against the rival Lone Star Brahmas. It's Pink in the Rink weekend with games Friday and Saturday nights at 7:05 PM, including a pink game-worn jersey auction following Saturday's game. At Friday's game, one lucky fan will win a $500 savings account courtesy of IBC Bank.
