IceMen Obtain Defenseman from Quad City

Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Facing a rather crucial and critical early season docket consisting of three games in three nights this week, the undefeated, tied for second place Evansville IceMen took some significant action today in reinforcing their somewhat depleted defense corps. The IceMen General Manager / Coach Rich Kromm has announced on this date that the club has obtained the playing rights to first-year pro defenseman KARL LINDEN from the Quad City Mallards, effective immediately.

LINDEN, 24, comes to Evansville after playing in 7-games for the Quad City club thus far this season. In those 7-games, the 6-0, 180lb, left-hand shooting rearguard registered 1-assist on the power play while delivering 7-SOG.

Prior to his arrival to the professional ranks with the Mallards, the native of Sundbyberg, Sweden completed a standout four-year career at NCAA Division III Elmira College. In 2010-11, he was named to the All-ECAC West Second Team, registering 20-points in 26-games on 6-goals, 14-assists with 10-PIM.

Considered a defenseman with a bent and slant for the offensive style, Linden engineered 79-points in 103-career games through 19-goals, 60-assists, spurring the Soaring Eagles to NCAA post-season tournament berths in each of his initial three years at the school. As a sophomore, Linden was named to both the Division III All-America East Second Team and the All-ECAC West First Team in 2008-09. His freshman season saw Linden earn ECAC All-Rookie Team honors.

The acquisition of Linden is expected to shore-up an IceMen backline that has been operating in an understaffed mode in recent action. Jordan Little and Jake Obermeyer both remain on the shelf due to injuries with neither player expected to be available this week.

Riding the crest of a season-opening 7-game unsullied skein at 7(6-0-1) and having won 5 in a row, the IceMen face 3-games in 3-nights this week, beginning Thursday night when they tackle archrival Fort Wayne on IPC Thanksgiving "Turkey Shoot Night." Friday night, Nov. 18th, the following night, first place Missouri comes to town in the opening game of a 2-game home-and-home series that will conclude Saturday night in Independence, MO. Friday night at the Ford Center has been designated "Pink the Rink Night" and "Ladies Night." Evansville commences the week tied for second place with Rapid City and a mere 2-points back of first place Missouri, having played 3-less games than both the Rush and the Mavs.
