Blaze Fall Short at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio -- The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, gave up goals late in the second period and early in the third to fall to the host Dayton Gems 3-1 on Thursday night at Hara Arena.

The first tally didn't enter the net until 3:04 remaining in the second period, when Dayton's Kyle Bochek put back a short rebound.

With just nine seconds elapsed in the third period, Bloomington's Aaron Dawson was sent off the ice for a major and game misconduct for boarding, and 26 seconds later, Dayton increased the lead to 2-0 on a deflection by Tim Hartung. The Blaze got one back on a power play with an extra attacker when Mike Zbriger scored from assists by Mark Znutas and Jon Booras. The Gems put the game away with 35 seconds left when Damien Surma picked up a Blaze turnover and scored into an empty net.

Dayton outshot the Blaze 39-24. The Blaze fall to 1-6-2 while the Gems improve to 4-4-3.

The Blaze conclude the five-game road trip with a rematch in Moline, Illinois with the Quad City Mallards on Friday night at 7:05, with a 6:45 pre-game on WJBC.com and CHL-TV. Fans are invited to watch the game at Gill Street Sports Bar and Restaurant in Bloomington. The Blaze return home on Saturday night for a 7:05 face-off against the Dayton Gems, when Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman will meet fans and sign autographs (one per person) on the U.S. Cellular Coliseum concourse from 6 till 9 p.m. Tickets and more information are available by calling the Blaze office at 309-434-2980.
