November 17, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Jordan Kary's shorthanded goal midway through the second period held up as the game-winner, thanks to a 30-save performance by Mark Guggenberger, as the Texas Brahmas topped the Arizona Sundogs by a 2-1 final on Thursday night at Tim's Toyota Center.
The one-goal finish was Arizona's seventh of the season, tying the Dayton Gems for the most in the league.
Kary's shorthanded winner was the result of a 2-on-1 rush with TJ Fox and was the first shorthanded goal given up by Arizona this season.
The Brahmas' Phil Howarth opened up the scoring from the left circle 8:32 into the frame for his first of the season and a 1-0, Texas lead.
Not even two minutes into period two, the Sundogs evened the score with a power play goal by Luke Erickson for his fourth of the season before Kary's go-ahead goal.
Levente Szuper finished with 29 saves on the night for the Sundogs.
The Sundogs finished 1-for-5 on the power play. Texas was 0-for-3.
Off the ice, filming for Fox Broadcasting's the "The X-Factor" was taking place. One of the show's finalists, Drew Ryniewicz, is a native of Chino Valley, AZ and a Sundogs fan. Clips of her recent performances on the show were displayed, and the Sundogs encouraged fans to vote for the 14-year-old singer in the competition's final weeks.
The Sundogs and Brahmas continue their three-game set with game two on Friday at Tim's Toyota Center. Game time is set for 7:05 PM MST.
The Arizona Sundogs are the Central Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes. Their sixth season is brought to you by Cliff Castle Casino-Hotel and the team will also host the 2012 CHL All-Star Game in January.
