IceMen Cap 5-Game Homestand this Weekend

November 18, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Flourishing with an overall mark of 4(3-1-0) in their last 4-starts and 6(4-2-0) through their last 6-outings, the Evansville IceMen seek to complete an extensive five-game home stand this weekend on a high, positive note.

Under the direction of General Manager/Coach Rich Kromm, the IceMen 6(4-1-1) boast the Central Hockey League Turner Conference best home record at 6(4-1-1) as they await the invasions of both the Dayton Gems this Friday night and the Mississippi RiverKings this Saturday night with both games on the docket for 7:35 pm at Swonder Ice Arena.

Having prevailed in two of their initial three starts on this current home stand, the IceMen will look to atone, avenge and make amends for their sole setback thus far during this span when they engage in encore combat with the Dayton Gems Friday night on the IceMen Thanksgiving "Turkey-Shoot Night." This will be the second consecutive contest to be waged and staged between the IceMen and the Gems with Dayton laying claim to the first game last Saturday night at Swonder, 2-1. That defeat, halted the IceMen win streak at 3-in a row. It was Dayton's second successive triumph in as many meetings this season against Evansville with Gems goaltender Jeff Jakaitis being the star in each clash as he also backstopped his squadron to a 3-1 verdict back on opening night, October 16th at Dayton's Hara Arena.

The IceMen launch the weekend with an overall season mark of 12(6-5-1) for 13-points and a 3-way tie for 4th place in the Turner Conference while the Gems begin the week's action tied for second place with CHL defending kingpin Rapid City. Dayton's record stands at 10(7-2-1) for 15-points and a current 3-game win streak as well as a perfect 2(2-0-0) record on the road.

Remarkably, a minuscule 3-points separate second place from seventh place in the conference standings.

Saturday night, the IceMen will tangle with the Berry Conference delegation from Mississippi, the RiverKings in a 7:35 duel to cap the home stand. The IceMen top the season series at 2(2-0-0) with both victories earned in Mississippi by replica results of 5-2; on October 22nd and November 9th.

Evansville has prospered early this season stepping outside conference boundaries as reflected in its perfect personified 3(3-0-0) log achieved against the Berry Conference, outscoring those foes, 18-5. Defenseman Jake Pence is back in the lineup after missing the first 12-games due to an injury sustained in the pre-season.
