Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Rockford IceHogs served the Elmira Jackals their worst defeat in franchise history, with a 10-2 clobbering Wednesday night at the First Arena.

As part of her UHL-wide promotion to raise awareness for Colon Cancer, Jackals special forward Molly McMaster became the first woman to play in a game for Elmira. She was in the starting lineup and almost had her first pro point when Konstantin Kalmikov's first shot of the game was narrowly saved by goaltender Michel Robinson.

When the game resumed it only took rookie defenseman Tom Zabkowicz 1:18 to find the net and give Rockford the early 1-0 lead over the Jackals. Zabkowicz's goal was assisted by Olivier Proulx and Preston Mizzi, which gave the rookie defenseman his first goal as a professional. The IceHogs doubled their lead when Rob Voltera scored at 14:42 of the first. The teams would head to the locker rooms with Rockford leading 2-0 but Elmira up in shots 11-9.

The second period contained ten goals scored, but only two for the Jackals. To start off the lopsided period Olivier Proulx netted Rockford's 3rd goal of the night, a short-handed goal, just 35 seconds into the period. Chris Chaput answered back at 1:34 to put Elmira on the board, receiving assists from Sam Paolini and Kevin Cooper. Jason Notermann lengthened the gap for Rockford at 3:19 by popping in his first point of the night and making the score 4-1. Craig MacDonald had the final tally for the Jackals in the second period, and the game, cutting Rockford's lead to 4-2. However, the rest of the scoring belonged to the visitors. Robin Big Snake started off the flurry of goals with his first point of the night coming at 7:56. Just over a minute later Chaz Johnson slid one past Nick Boucher to give the IceHogs a 4-goal lead. At 12:10 Bruce Watson scored his first of two goals in the period, the second coming just 72 seconds later. That's how the period would end with Rockford leading the Jackals 8-2 and leading in shots 23-19.

After a high scoring 10-goal second period, the third period only had 2 goals occur, both in favor of Rockford and both scored by Chaz Johnson to give the IceHogs' forward a hat trick on the night. The first of the two goals came at 1:51 and the second came at 16:01.

Elmira now hits the road for three games, Friday in Danbury for a 7:30 pm face off, and a weekend double-header in Adirondack Saturday at 7:35 pm and Sunday at 5:15 pm.
