IceHogs Defeat River Otters 5-2

January 1, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

Rod Aldoff and J.C. Ruid scored two goals apiece as the Rockford IceHogs took the first half of a home-and-home set with the Missouri River Otters by a 5-2 count at the Family Arena.

The lone goal of the opening period came on a rare defensive breakdown by the River Otters. Rockford's J.F. Dufour skated in alone on a breakaway, and beat Jason Tapp with a low wrist shot.

Rockford got the first goal of the second period, as Aldoff re-directed a Dufour pass behind Tapp. The River Otters came storming back four minutes later when Lars Pettersen roofed a terrific pass from George Cantrall for his seventh goal of the season. Cole Bassett tied the score a minute later on a goal that was eerily similar to Pettersen's.

It was all IceHogs in the final period. Aldoff got the eventual game-winner less than a minute into the period, and Ruid added two goals to seal the deal for Rockford. Michel Robinson made 24 saves for his fifteenth win of the season, while Tapp made 20 saves in defeat.

The Otters play the IceHogs Sunday afternoon at the Rockford MetroCentre. The puck drops at 3:05, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the River Otters B2 Webcast, which can be found at the River Otters website!
