Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Another game and more struggles for the Rockford IceHogs power play. The Hogs were topped by the Muskegon Fury Friday night 7-3 in front of 4,591 at the Rockford MetroCentre on New Year's Eve. The IceHogs were 1-for-8 on the power play, and failed to capitalize on three lengthy 5-on-3 power plays while Muskegon was 3-for-9 on the man advantage.
The Fury were first score when winger B.J. Gaustad tipped in a marker at 12:36 of the first just as a power play expired. The IceHogs would tie the contest as winger Terry Harrison, who just returned from the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL), netted his seventh tally of the season at 14:26. Defenseman Jason Lawmaster then put the Fury back on top at 15:05 of the period with a power play goal.
Muskegon didn't waste any time netting another power play marker in the second. Winger Robin Bouchard blasted home a goal just 30 seconds into the middle frame. Rockford responded once again as rookie center Miguel Lafleche knocked in the Hogs second goal at 4:27 making it 3-2.
The IceHogs couldn't starve off Muskegon, and winger Rustyn Dolyny knocked one past goalie Michel Robinson at 7:06. Bouchard later picked up his second tally at 18:09 on a power play making it 4-2 before Bouchard pushed the lead to three at 18:09. Hogs center J.C. Ruid cut the lead back to two with Rockford's only power play goal of the game at 19:17 of the second period.
That's all Rockford could manage however, and two more third period goals put the game out of reach. Winger Brant Blackned scored at 7:06 and Lawmaster tallied on a power play, chasing Robinson at 13:18. The IceHogs out shot Muskegon 39-34.
