Missouri River Otters News Release
Led by Jason Ralph's two-point performance, the Rockford IceHogs defeated the Missouri River Otters 4-2 Sunday night at the St. Louis Mills IceZone in a preseason exhibition game.
The IceHogs struck first less than five minutes into the first period when Preston Mizzi skated through the slot and fired the puck past River Otters goaltender Kevin Reiter. The River Otters tied the game at one with under a minute remaining in the period when J.P. Beilsten split the defense and beat IceHogs goalie Ronnie Vogel with a nice backhand move.
The IceHogs took back the lead early in the second period when Steve Yetman picked up a loose puck to the side of the net and scored. Rockford extended their lead on a two-man advantage when Corey Hessler beat Reiter with a low wrister. The IceHogs weren't done yet, however, as Jason Ralph notched a goal with three minutes remaining in the period to make it a 4-1 game. Missouri got one back with less than a minute remaining in the second period when Frank Littlejohn took a pass from Damian Surma and beat Vogel with a low shot. Reiter made 31 saves on 35 shots in two periods of work.
Neither team scored in a penalty-filled third period and the IceHogs skated off with the win. River Otters goalie Brenden Cuthbert made saves on all 14 shots he faced in the third period. Vogel made 29 saves on 31 shots to pick up the victory.
The River Otters open the regular season Friday, October 21, as they will host the Motor City Mechanics in the Family Arena at 7:00 PM CDT.
