February 14, 2007 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.-The United Hockey League and the Rockford IceHogs want to help your band make it big! We're looking for local bands to take part in a Battle of the Bands and win an all expense paid trip to New York for an audition with RCA records.

Here's how it works. There will be three preliminary rounds on three consecutive Thursdays at 7 p.m. at LT's Bar and Grill. Each preliminary round will feature four bands playing and immediately following the show the judges will announce to the crowd which band will move on to play in the finals which will take place during the Saturday, March 30 IceHogs game at the Rockford MetroCentre. After the winner of that particular preliminary round is announced, the judges will ask the crowd to select a runner-up from the three bands that weren't selected based on applause.

The three preliminary dates are Thursday, Feb. 22, Thursday, March 1 and Thursday, March 8, all at 7 p.m. After the three preliminary events take place, the judges will select one of the three runner-up bands selected to play in the finals. Only one of those three bands will get the chance to move on to the finals.

During the March 30 IceHogs game versus the Elmira Jackals, the four finalist bands will compete to see who is the Rockford area Battle of the Bands winner. Each of the 10 UHL teams will find a winner from their market and fans will then vote on the UHL Web site, theuhl.com, to select which of those 10 bands should win the all expense paid trip to New York for the RCA records audition.

To sign up, bands can call Scott Hulmes at LT's Bar and Grill at (815) 394-1098, or send in a demo CD to Scott at 1011 S. Alpine Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. The music must be all originals. No covers are allowed. Sign-up ends on Monday, Feb. 19.

Do you want to take part, but aren't in a band, or you think you have no musical talent? Don't worry, there's still plenty of ways you can take part. Every fan that brings in a musical instrument to the March 30th IceHogs game will receive a free ticket voucher to the Wednesday, April 4 game. All instruments donated will be donated to local schools and their music programs.

During the March 30 game, the IceHogs will be wearing a special Battle of the Bands Jersey that will be auctioned off and you will be able to bid on them at theuhl.com. The proceeds of this jersey auction will go to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation which is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of music education in America's schools. There will also be music and sports memorabilia auctioned off in a silent auction at the March 30 IceHogs game.

So sign up now or get out to LT's and cheer for your favorite bands and help them get their chance to get discovered!

Next Homestand: Friday, Feb. 16 vs. Chicago Hounds. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Hogs ands Hounds meet up once again at the Rockford MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans to the game will pick up an IceHogs Draw String Bag from Power Connection.

Saturday, Feb. 17 vs. Quad City Mallards. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. One of the fiercest rivalries in the UHL returns to the MetroCentre. The Hogs and Mallards face-off for a second time in four days and the first 1,000 kids 12-and under will receive an IceHogs replica youth jersey from Feldco Windows, Siding and Doors.
