Rockford IceHogs News Release
Moline, Ill.- With three of its top three offensive players out due to American Hockey League call-up, the Rockford IceHogs struggled to find offense in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Quad City Mallards at the MARK of the Quad Cities. The shootout loss ended the Hogs season-high five game-winning streak, but extended its unbeaten streak to six straight contests (5-0-1).
The IceHogs grabbed the 1-0 lead in the opening frame while on a power play. Defenseman Nathan Lutz's blast was redirected past Mallards goalie Jason Tapp at 9:34 by winger Jason Notermann for his eighth goal of the season. Center Bryce Cockburn assisted on the goal as well, extending his point streak to 11-straight games, one game shy of the club record.
Quad City responded with a power-play of its own in the second period to tie the score at 1-1. Defenseman Nick Harloff held in an IceHogs clear-out attempt and blasted his fourth goal of the season past Frederic Cloutier at 4:42. That was all the scoring in regulation.
In the extra session the Hogs got its only goal when rookie winger Erick Lizon beat Tapp in round three. Quad City, however, countered with goals from Patrick Nadeau in round four the game-winner from Sean Starke in the fifth round.
Cloutier had another impressive outing, turning away 33 Mallards shots while Tapp finished the night with 25 saves. The Hogs power play went 1-for -5 and the penalty kill held the Mallards to 1-for-8.
