Port Huron Flags News Release

(PORT HURON, MICH.) - In aggressive, gritty battle between the archrival Port Huron Flags and Flint Generals, the Flags emerged victorious with their second straight shootout victory at home, by the score of 3-2.

Flint grabbed the initial lead of the night at 7:50, when Shaun Fisher took a nice pass from Terry Marchant and one-timed it from beyond the far circle. Dustin Traylen's glove just missed the power play puck that gave the Generals a 1-0 start. It would be the only goal of the first period, as the visitors outshot the home squad, 12-7.

A shorthanded maneuver from Mark Cadotte tied the match for the Flags at 4:40 in the second, with Steve Hildenbrand assisting. However, Bobby Reynolds answered with a wrist shot that Traylen was unable to block, less than two minutes later.

Recently signed Ben Gustavson recorded his first goal as a Flag 36 seconds into the third, to knot the score at twos. Converting a carry-over power play, Gustavson picked up a perfect pass from Hildenbrand and one-timed the puck over Jason Muzzatti's stick side, for the equalizing goal. Greg Bullock also assisted. Port Huron's defense made a solid stand near the middle of the frame, when the Generals found themselves with a minute and a half of 5-on-3 time. Traylen and the back line put on a spectacular performance for the duration of the game, denying all 10 of Flint's shots to send the match to an overtime shoot-out.

Traylen stopped three of Flint's four shooters while Bobby Kukulka, Cadotte and Gustavson took advantage of Muzzatti to seal the deal for the home team.

AT&T's first, second and third stars of the game were awarded to Gustavson, Hildenbrand and Traylen, respectively. Ice action heats up again at McMorran Arena on Friday night, at 7:30 p.m., when the Flags host the Kalamazoo Wings.
