SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (19-12-3) fell behind by two in the first period and could not come back as they fell for the fourth consecutive game, 2-1, to the Louisiana IceGators () during the 14th Belhaven University Face Off Field trip in front of over 7,000 Mid-South students.

The IceGators scored early in the first period to take the lead. Chris Wilson was awarded a penalty shot just 1:23 into play and capitalized to give the 'Gators a 1-0 lead. Later in the first, Jeremy Boyer's shot from the blueline on the power play deflected off of Jeff Grant to find the back of the net as Louisiana took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second, the RiverKings battled back late. With 23 seconds remaining in the middle frame, Matt Harrington's deflection rung off the post, right onto the tape of Matt Whitehead who buried it past Kiefer Smiley to cut the deficit to one going into the third period.

Neither team mustered much offense in a very open third period, as the RiverKings outshot Louisiana 5-4. With time ticking off and the RiverKings' net empty, Smiley kept the puck out of the net as the RiverKings dropped their fourth straight with a 2-1 loss to the 'Gators.

Dan McWhinney (10-8-0) took the loss after stopping 21 of 23 shots against. Kiefer Smiley (9-6-2) stopped 33 of 34 shots against in the win.

As part of the DeSoto County Schools' Face Off Field Trip with the RiverKings, the RiverKings announced that the schools had raised over $10,000 for the Superintendent's Youth Leadership Council through ticket sales for this morning's game.

The RiverKings will look for revenge on Friday night when they take to the ice in Lafayette against the IceGators at 7:05 p.m. Be sure to catch all the action at Old Style BBQ, the Official Away Game Watch Party Headquarters of the RiverKings.
